Mallorca Cathedral

The Cathedral of Mallorca, also known as ‘La Seu’, is undoubtedly the most famous monument in the city of Palma, inaugurated in 1229. Palma Cathedral has undergone different restorations over the years, but it has always sought to conserve its original essence. A curious fact is that one of the architects involved in one of the modifications was Antonio Gaudí. 

The cathedral, divided into eight nave bays, has a rectangular shape. The Cathedral of Mallorca was built on the site of the old mosque of Medina Mayurka, which was destroyed to build the current cathedral. It is a unique Gothic monument, although the main entrance belongs to the Renaissance style. 

The interior also contains artwork from different periods: Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and contemporary. One of Palma Cathedral’s most important icons is its main rose window, the largest in Gothic architecture.

La Lonja

La Lonja de Palma is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture in Mallorca. It is a historic mercantile exchange designed by Guillem Safrera and built in the mid-15th century.

This monument has a rectangular floor plan with peculiar pillars. The exterior of the building has four different naves, separated by helicoidal columns. La Lonja de Mallorca was used as a reference for constructions in other Spanish cities, such as Valencia.

La Lonja de Palma, listed as one of the cultural monuments in Palma, has an architectural value and impressive structure that make it one of the most beautiful monuments in Palma.

This building, located in Palma Old Town, is just a few metres from the Paseo Marítimo (seafront promenade) of Palma and Hotel Palacio Can Marqués. 

Bellver Castle

Bellver Castle, located less than 10 minutes from the centre of Palma,

was built at the beginning of the 14th century for King James II of Mallorca. Its strategic, hill-top position gives it panoramic views of the entire Bay of Palma.

This Gothic-style fortress is the only circular castle in Spain and is one of few remaining in the world. Bellver Castle is a unique place surrounded by forests where you can stroll, rest and enjoy nature in Mallorca.

Almudaina Palace

Right next to the Cathedral of Mallorca, you will find the Palacio Real de La Almudaina (Royal Palace of La Almudaina). This marvellous building is another of the historical monuments to be found on the island of Mallorca. 

In the Royal Palace of La Almudaina, you can appreciate the Romanesque and Islamic influences. The monument has, among other things, a parade ground and a great hall.

The Almudaina Palace is doubtlessly part of the country's heritage. Nowadays, it is one of the official residences of the Spanish Royal family when they visit Mallorca. The Almudaina Palace, surrounded by high walls, stands out for its beautiful Angel Tower.

Arab Baths

In Palma’s Old Town, very close to our hotel, we find the Arab Baths. It is an ancient bathhouse that is practically all that remains of the Arab city of Medina Mayurqa (now as known as Palma) when the Moors ruled and is one of the few preserved examples of Islamic architecture on the island of Mallorca.  

These baths were founded on Roman ruins in the 11th century. Some of the areas that remain from the Arab Baths in Palma are the central room, used for hot baths. This room stands out for its rectangular floor plan and semi-circular vault.

The Arab Baths of Palma can be accessed through a horseshoe arch doorway. Some rooms, steam pipes and the remains of chimneys used to heat the water and climatise the chambers remain relatively intact. Also worth mentioning is its remarkable garden, which is a peaceful haven full of vegetation.
