Bellver Castle

Bellver Castle is located less than 3 kilometres from the old town of Palma. It was built at the beginning of the 14th century by order of King James II of Mallorca to defend the island of Mallorca from possible enemies. 

The architectural style of Bellver Castle is Gothic, and it is also the only circular castle in Spain and one of the few in the world. 

The translation of the castle’s name, Bellver, into Spanish is ‘Bella Vista’ (beautiful view), as you can contemplate the panoramic view of the entire City of Palma and Bay of Palma from the castle. This is why the castle’s location was strategic, as it was possible to see in advance when Mallorca was under attack.
